Standardized Tests

Health profession programs use standardized test scores to evaluate your readiness for advanced study in your field of interest. Some of these standardized tests, such as the MCAT and DAT, require completion of certain college-level courses before you take the test. Check with your advisor to determine the best time for you to take the standardized test for your program of interest.

  • Dental School – DAT (Dental Admissions Test):
    Tests in Natural Sciences, Perceptual Ability, Reading Comprehension, and Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Health Care Administration – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Medical School – MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test):
    Tests in Behavioral Sciences, Biological Science, Physical Science, and Verbal Reasoning.
  • Occupational Therapy – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Optometry – OAT (Optometry Admissions Test):
    Tests in Natural Sciences, Physics, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Physical Therapy – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Physician Assistant Studies – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning
    Some schools require the PA-CAT which tests knowledge in the prerequisite classes.
  • Public Health – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Rehabilitation Studies – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning or MAT (Millers Analogies Test).
  • Speech Therapy – GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning.
  • Veterinary Medicine –GRE (Graduate Record Exam):
    Tests in Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning (only two US vet schools still require the GRE)

                                               Many schools now require Casper — an online, situational judgement test.

Your test score is an important factor in admission to professional programs and we want you to be as prepared and competitive as possible. ECU and Kaplan are partnering to provide discounted test prep programming to our students, staff, and alumni to offer test prep courses for the DAT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, and OAT. Kaplan’s comprehensive prep options allow you to feel confident knowing you’ll have the best chance to succeed on test day.

DAT $600 Class Options
There is no class code for the DAT. Choose 3 or 6 month Limitless Prep. Put NA on our registration form below.

Enrolling in a Kaplan Course with the ECU Discount

To enroll in a Kaplan course and receive the ECU discount, follow these steps:

    1. Click the “Class Options” link above for the appropriate test
    2. Find the date/time that you prefer. Click on “see details” or “course details”
    3. Locate the “Class Code,” which is a 10-digit code made up of 5 letters and 5 numbers (example: MAAGL12345). For the GRE, LSAT, and MCAT scroll to the bottom of the “Course Details” page and look in the bottom left corner for the code. Write down the code. You will need this to get the discount.
    4. Register through the ECU portal: bit.ly/ecukaplanprep
    5. Enter the 10-digit “Class Code” when asked (there is no code for the DAT or OAT)

        Enrollment is processed on the 1st and 15th of each month. Please plan accordingly. For example, if it is March 16th don’t register for a course that starts before April 1st.
